DRUPAL 9 ROADMAP

Drupal 9 will be released in 2020.

If you collaborate with any modules on drupal.org and want those sites to live long after the end of life in 2021, you should prepare for Drupal 9.

Why should you do it? First, the users of your module may want to have it on Drupal 9. Second, your customers may ask to migrate their sites to Drupal 9, so you'd better be prepared.

Also, after the end of the life of Drupal 8, there will be no commits and no new features.

Unsupported modules and sites (not compatible with the latest Drupal core) running on Drupal 8 will have vulnerabilities after some time.

Upgrading is the most important thing to stay safe if you want to store your users' private data securely.

And it is important if you need to scale your website and add new features.

Upgrading a Drupal 8 codebase to 9 is not as difficult as upgrading from 7 to 8.
